XCR24 RD 10: TAN RELAYS
HOT LAPS AROUND THE TAN TO FIGHT THE COLD
The coldest September day since 2004 and 46 Valley athletes (15 Female & 31 Male) assembled early on Saturday 14th September to run a lap of the Tan. The Valley tent drew a crowd that sought some refuge from the cold before the Tan Relays commenced at 9:00am. Once the Relays got under way all complaints about the cold were forgotten as each athlete attacked the 3.8km loop with full intensity. A time for the lap of the Tan is an important highlight for any athlete and at the end of the morning there were many DVAC runners heading home pleased with their efforts.
VALLEY HOT LAPS - FEMALES
Ally Brooks, 13:48, recorded the fastest lap of the Tan for the DVAC women. Ally led the DVAC Female Under 18 team out in great style and was backed up by Georgia L’Estrange, 15:53, & Luella Wood, 16:40, to bring the team home in 6th place. This gave the Valley FU18 team enough points to finish the 2024 Winter season in second place on the Ladder.
Rose Jarvis, 14:06, took over a minute off her time for the Tan in 2023 and was the second fastest time for all Female Under 16 runners on the day. Rose has not missed an event all season and she has led the Valley Female Under 16 team to a season premiership for the 2024 Winter season. On Saturday, the Female Under 16 team was completed by Grace Robinson, 15:46, and Daisy Whyte, 18:21. It was Daisy Whyte’s first run with Diamond Valley.
Camryn Price, 14:29, achieved her goal of going under the 15minutes mark when she set off as the first runner in the DVAC Female Division 2 team. This made Camryn the third fastest DVAC Female Tan time for the Round. Mikaela Gray, 15:04, Erin Maloney, 15:52, and Adina Morrow, 16:34, completed the team that finished in 5th position out of the 11 teams. The Division 2 will finish the season midway on the season ladder for 2024.
Anu Conley, FU16, had her first run with the Valley and completed her lap of the Tan in 17:42. Jo Moxon took over a minute off her time for the Tan in 2023 when she crossed in 19:52. Sarah Papadopoulos made a minute and a half improvement on her Tan time from 2023 when she finished in 22:44.
VALLEY HOT LAPS – MALES
Caden Murray, M Open, returned from injury and set out with some caution, but still recorded the fastest lap time for the Tan of 11:54. The rest of the six member team in Men Division 2 came in close together: James Telford 13:16, Blake Barnes, 12:50, Lachlan Deller, 13:09, Charles Jacobson, 13:35, and Michael Martello, 13:00. The team was placed 11th out of 13 teams. The DVAC Men Open Division 2 team will finish in 8th position on season ladder.
Ethan Armstrong-Bourne, U18, led out with a lap of 12:19, to record the second fastest time for the Men on the day. Joshua Fitzgerald, U18, had his first run with the Valley and clocked an impressive 12:37. Patrick Knight, 13:27, completed the MU18 team that finished in 6th place out of the 11 teams.
DVAC was fortunate to have three MU16 teams at the Tan Relays and there was quality in the efforts of all nine athletes. There was nothing to separate Brodie Batt, 12:53, and Nicholas Tomkins, 12:53, with William Quigley, 13:13, close behind. The team was placed 4th out of the 15 teams. On the season ladder the MU16 team went into the Tan relays in 6th position out of the 20 teams. Hunter Harvey, MU16, made an impressive debut with the Valley, completing the lap of the Tan in 14:12.
The DVAC Men 60+ Short Course did not compete at the Tan Relays, but the team will win the season premiership, going into the final round with an unbeatable lead. There were two Men 50+ teams and one Female 50+ team in action at the Tan Relays.
THANKS …
A huge vote of thanks goes to David Armstrong for getting the DVAC Tent in prime position before athletes arrived. The tent was later packed up by a happy team of volunteers. Thanks to Craig Batt who managed the DVAC Club Helper duty with some assistance from Paul Schofield and Lyn Davis.
Thanks to all who brought food along to share … it was fully appreciated.
