SUCCESS FOR THE VALLEY AT XCR22 SEASON FINALE
On the final day of competition for the 2022 season of Cross Country & Road racing, the results confirmed the season as one of the most successful in recent times for the Diamond Valley Athletic Club. Three of the DVAC relay teams at the Tan Relays won medals by placing in the top three to finish in their division at the Tan.
Three DVAC teams confirmed their top of the ladder finish for the season and were awarded a Championship pennant. Matilda L’Estrange won the honour of being the Individual Champion in the Women Under18 for the season.
During the season Shania Murray won an individual medal in an Open age race for the first time when she finished second in the Open Women’s 16km road race.
As if that were not enough, the times posted by DVAC athletes at the Tan Relays were of top quality from start to finish.
There was a season high turnout of 42 DVAC athletes at the Tan with 16 Women & 26 Men. 14 of the total were Juniors.
The spirit of friendship & support for fellow team-mates throughout the day was a highlight of a very successful day.
PODIUM FINISHERS AT THE TAN
The DVAC Women Under 16 team of Ally Brooks, Jamieson Lander and Poppy Scot-Dalgleish finished their three laps of the 3.87km course around the Tan in second place out of the ten teams. The trio have held together throughout the season ably supported by Georgia L’Estarange who stepped up for the 5km Road Race at Burnley. At the Tan, they finished behind Mornington but 36 seconds ahead of the team from Box Hill. Poppy and Ally featured in the top five times for the DVAC women on the day.
The DVAC Men Under 16 team won their first medal for the season when they finished in third place. Ethan Armstrong-Bourne got the team off to a flier when he tagged in second place with a time of 12:54. Cameron Ellis lapped the Tan in 13:00 and Dylan Nutbean brought the team home with a 14:09 lap.
The DVAC Men 60+ team of Peter Ramsay, Rob Wendel and Greg Luck could have strolled around the Tan & still have won the season pennant such was their big lead. To their credit, they still showed why they were Division leaders by crossing in third place. Peter Ramsay, 15:46 tagged in third place at the end of his lap & the team held on to that position.
SEASON PREMIERS FOR 2022
Three DVAC teams were announced as XCR’22 Premier teams and presented with pennants although the official season ladders are yet to be published. The season lead held by each of the teams and their result at the Tan Relays does support their appointment as Premier teams for the 2022 Winter. The three teams & their members were:
Men 60+ (Short Course): Lyal Douglas, Greg Luck, Peter Ramsay & Rob Wendel.
Women Under 18: Matilda L’Estrange, Georgia L’Estrange, Annalise Jones, Sugi Neecowen
