VINTAGE CROP IN THE VINEYARDS FOR VALLEY ATHLETES
Round 4 of the 2024 Winter season set athletes against a largely technical course of tight turns, constant slopes and uneven surfaces as they worked their way around the scenic setting of St Anne’s Winery, Ravenswood. The rewards for the 35 Diamond Valley Athletic Club members (13 Female & 22 Male) who undertook the challenge were found in a range of individual and team results.
DIVISION 2 TEAMS DO WELL
The Division 2 DVAC Open Female team achieved a fourth placing to equal its best result for the season. Shania Murray led the team home and crossed the line in 6th place out of a field of 148. Shania ran the 8km distance at St Anne’s in 30:16. This was one of Shania’s best results in the winter series and will give her confidence as she prepares for the Gold Coast Half Marathon in three weeks. The four members team was completed by Mikaela Gray, 35:24; Debbie McKenzie, 42:26; and Jo Moxon, 46:19.
Caden Murray celebrated his birthday with another strong performance in the Open Men 8km and led the DVAC Division 2 team to their best result for the season. Caden Murray finished in 19th position in a field of 375 and completed the 8km in 26:06 giving him an average km pace of 3:15.The 6 member team finished 4th out of the 12 teams in Division 2 and the next five DVAC runners to cross the finish line and complete the Division 2 team were: Vincent Donnadieu, 26:30; Tim Logan, 28:10; Dylan Littlejohn, 29:41; Charles Jacobson, 30:26; and James Telford, 30:45.
FU16 TEAM HOLDS ON TO TOP SPOT
The DVAC Female Under 16 team strengthened its grip on top position on the season ladder with another team victory at St Anne’s. Matilda Johnson finished third in the Female Under 16 race and completed the 3km in 11:15. The three member team was completed by Rose Jarvis, 6th in 11:35, and Grace Robinson, 11th in 12:19.
M60 SHORT COURSE STREAK CONTINUES
Another winning DVAC team at St Anne’s was the Men 60+ Short Course team. This team was made up by Martin Murray who finished 4th in the 4km Short Course event in a time of 19:35; Rob Wendel, 5th in 20:36; and Lyal Douglas, 6th in 22:09.

DVAC had top ten finishers in a number of other races. These included,

VALLEY FOOTNOTES:
o The Valley Tent was superbly situated at St Anne’s thanks to David Armstrong. It was a popular gathering point for the DVAC family throughout the day.
o The Pack up at the end of the day was shared by a happy band of helpers.
o Highlight of the food contributions was undoubtedly the delicious cakes supplied by Maryann Murray to celebrate Caden’s Birthday.
o Lowlight of the day was Isaac Craig having to pull out of the 8km race due to blisters. Isaac was running in a pair of spikes that he had not fully tested before.
o There was a happy gathering in the Winery ‘Shed’ after the day had finished to mark a positive day of Winter competition.
o Next events: John Hertz Handicap at Yellowgum Park, Plenty starting at 9:00am next Saturday, 22nd June; and Sandown Road Relays on Saturday 29th June.
