CHRISTMAS JOY AT VIC MILERS MEET

Seven DVAC athletes went home with new personal best times for either the 800m or the 1500m events conducted as part of the Victorian Milers Club, Meet #2, held at the Box Hill track. Nine other DVAC middle distance runners all appreciated the chance to have a valuable hit out on an stormy evening that seemed likely to stop the busy program getting past the first hour. In the end the entire 41 race program was completed with 538 athletes posting results.

DVAC was represented by Jaryd Clifford and Tim Logan in the premier heat of the Men’s 1500m. In one of their first races for the 2022/ 2023 season of Track racing, Jaryd and Tim were content that their performances had been a positive start to their summer program. Jaryd Clifford slipped in to second position from the start and held on to finish second in a time of 3:44.44. Tim Logan completed the 1500m in 3:50.32 and crossed in 11th place.

Shania Murray (WOpen) led the 1500m times for the Valley women. Shania worked strongly in the second half of the race to finish in 9th position in the Women B heat in a time of 4:43.01. Fieke Van Der Kamp (WU20) finished in 10th position in a new personal best time of 4:48.80.

Matilda L’Estrange (WU18) backed up her 4:47.9 from AVSL Rd 7 with a 4:50.68 at Milers Club five days later.

Ally Brooks, (WU16), ran in the Women B heat of the 800m and crossed in 8th place in 2:19.49.

Josh Logan, 2:00.49, and Michael Martello, 2:02.83, were the highest ranked DVAC runners in the Men’s 800m program. Jarryd Cripps, 2:03.93, was the next fastest, running in the Men’s D heat.

Felix Morgan (MU14) has recently returned from injury and still managed to finish his 800m in 2:29.40, just outside his pb of 2:28.

Aaron Bourne (MOpen) completed the 1500m in 5:13:51.

PB’s in the 800m races went to the following:

Erin Maloney (WU18) who led the field throughout the two laps and finished in 2:34.05.

Poppy Scot-Dalgleish (WU16) who went under 2:24 for the first time with a 2:23.98.

PB’s in the 1500m races went to the following:

Rhodri Whelan (MU16) who went under 5 minutes for the first time with a finishing time of 4:56.12.

Georgia L’Estrange (WU16) who chipped 10 seconds off her previous best performance by finishing in 5:22.33.

Joel Imbriano (MU18) battled fatigue in the final lap but still registered a new pb of 4:37.00.

Ethan Armstrong-Bourne (MU16) is edging toward the MU16 qualifier of 4:15.00: on Thursday evening, Ethan race a great race and finished in 4:19.89.

WELCOME TO THE VALLEY

Matilda Johnson, 12 Years old and a recent member of the Victorian team at the Australian Schools 10-12 Years, Track & Field Championships, lined up in the Women D heat where she placed 9th in 4:56.52. This was just a fraction behind the 5:56.49 at the Australian Schools Championships.

Callum Burns, a training mate of Jaryd Clifford & Tim Logan when in Canberra raced in the Zatopek and stayed over for the VMC meet. Callum finished in 3:49.01.

Lachlan Higgs, a VFL Boundary, showed his ability on the track with a 4:22.12 1500m.
