VALLEY SHINES AFTER THE RAIN - AVSL RD 3 2022

Published Sun 23 Oct 2022

VALLEY SHINES AFTER THE RAIN

All morning on Saturday 22nd October it seemed likely that Round 3 of the AV Shield League season would have to be cancelled as the rain continued to fall, but as the rain cleared up the athletes of the Diamond Valley Athletic Club swung into action to register another top of the ladder performance in the Premier Division. The 79 DVAC athletes who competed in Round 3 accumulated a total of 52,033 points to surpass their winning total in Round 3. This total came because of the outstanding level of performances by the Valley athletes, many of whom went home having posted a personal best result in their chosen event.

TEAM RESULTS

Two DVAC teams claimed top spot in the state for Round 3 in their age division and two DVAC teams finished the day in second place.

The Women Under 18 team had 10 members of the squad of 14 compete to produce a score of 7,700 points to earn top points for the round.

The Under 16 team had 12 of the squad of 13 compete to produce a score of 8,720 points to head the state in their age group for the round.

The DVAC Men 40+ finished second on the day with 10,279 points, close behind Essendon.

The DVAC Women Under 20 also finished Round 3 second on the State ladder with a total of 1,904 points.

Other DVAC Team results were as follows:

Women: WOpen 4th/33 teams; W40+ 9th/ 31 teams; WU20 2nd/24 teams; WU18 1st/32 teams; WU16 1st/ 33 teams; WU14 5th/25 teams

Men: MOpen 3rd/34 teams; M40+ 2nd/40 teams; MU20 15th/24 teams; MU18 5th/31 teams; MU16 10th/34 teams; MU14 11th/29 teams

WHAT A START!

Rarely has the Diamond Valley Athletic Club seen ten of its athletes compete in the Walk in the same round. In the two Heats of the 2000m Walk at Doncaster ten athletes made their way to the start line. Jaime Hvalica (2nd in M14), Tayla Borg (3rd in WU18), Bernie Keirl (M40+), Sarah Papadopoulos (WOpen), Kate Ryan (W40+), Jo Moxon (W40+), Arunan Arumainayagam (M40+), Ayla Arunan (WU14), Darren Corden (M40+) & Joshua Corden (MU14) combined to get Round 3 off to a flying start for the Valley.

PARA RECORDS UNDER ATTACK

Kirra Wright (T38) and Jordan Rudd (T20) were in great form in Round 3 of the AVSL competition. Kirra Wright equalled the National T38 record for Women Under 15 when she was clocked at 15.75 for the 100m. Kirra’s previous best time for the 100m was 15.64.

Jordan Rudd had a day out at Doncaster, leaving the venue with three pb’s. These came in the 1500m (5:15.9), the 400m (67.47) and the Long Jump (3.99m). Jordan held the previous Australian T20 record for the Men U17 1500m at 5:19.69.

Jordan is soon to take part in his first international competition as he prepares to head off to Brisbane to compete in the VIRTUS Oceania Asia Games held from the 5th to the 11th November 2022. The Australian team is organised by Sport Inclusion Australia. Jordan will compete against T20 athletes in this Oceania Asia regional event for elite athletes with an intellectual impairment.

Well done Kirra & Jordan.

ASHER’S AT IT AGAIN!

What a season Asher Andrews is having! In Round 3 of the AVSL Asher continued his remarkable season of outstanding performances. A Multi event champion, Asher competed in 5 events at Doncaster with his highest score coming from a 47.51m Javelin throw (511pts); then came pb efforts in the Discus, 46.69m (499pts) and the 100m, 11.66 (474pts).

Talk about the Fish that John West rejects! Asher’s other two events were the High Jump, 1.69m (pb) & Long Jump 5.96m (pb). AV only allows three events to be scored & so takes the best three. Maybe AV should allow some trade talk like the AFL.

The results that Asher posted in the Javelin & the Discus ranked him at the head of the State age grading list for Men Under 16. A good sign on the eve of the Victorian All Schools Track & Field Championships.

Asher’s aggregate score of 1,484 points placed him second on the Most Valuable Athlete in the State for Round 3 and at the head of the list for DVAC.

MOVING UP THE MVA LADDER

Ally Brooks (WU16) & Jamieson Lander (WU16) were listed in second & third place on the DVAC Most Valuable Athlete ladder.

Ally’s events were: 1500m 4:46.6 (500pts), 400m 61.77 (470pts); 100m 14.03 (345pts) and the 4x400m Relay (118pts) to total 1,433pts.

Jamieson’s events were: 400m 62.67 (452pts), 90m Hurdles 15.30 (368pts), 100m 13.60 (368pts), and the 4x400m Relay (118pts) to toal 1,341 pts.

Please supply the names of your Club / School Helpers to us by Midday Thursday 27 October, to ensure us adequate time for the appropriate administrative preparation required for such a large event.

Club & School Helpers are requested to sign in a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the scheduled commencement of each session.

Session times are :

Day 1 Saturday 29 – Session 1: 9.30 am to 2 pm - Session 2: 1.30 pm to end

Day 2 Sunday 30 – Session 1: 9 am to 1.30 pm - Session 2: 1 pm to end

Please instruct your Helpers to enter and sign in at the Cathy Freeman Room, where they will be introduced to their Events Chiefs, briefed on their responsibilities for the session, and given a wristband enabling access to the Officials Room and food and drinks throughout their shifts.

We request that you also ensure that your Helpers are suitably able to perform the duties allocated per the roster, and are dressed appropriately e.g. weather appropriate & no open toed shoes or sandals. Please note roles may be subject to change based on final entry numbers. Young Children are not permitted on the field of play whilst any duty is being completed. Please ensure your Helpers are aware of this and that they make other arrangements prior to commencing the duty.

We’re really excited about these Championships – entry numbers so far are strong and it’s a very full program, sessions can be broken up into smaller durations across multiple Helpers if that assists with provision of numbers, we simply ask that you notify us of all Helpers attending, including the times of their shifts accordingly.

Thank you for your support and we’re looking forward to a fantastic Weekend 1 of Championships.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries relating to the allocated duties.

Regards
