DIAMOND VALLEY HAS ITS SAY ON POWERPLAY DAY
The temperature soared and the competition was hot on a day when 17 AV clubs used their PowerPlay in Round 9 of the AVSL season. The Diamond Valley Athletic Club emerged from the scramble for points with the pleasure of finishing on top of the Premier Division for Round 9 and maximising the return from the PowerPlay by turning the 10 points into 20 points. Secure in second place on the season ladder, the Valley now has a total of 80 points after Round 9 and sits behind Eaglehawk who have a total of 84 points.
A total of 74 DVAC athletes (35 Female & 39 Male) answered the call to make the most of the PowerPlay round and their combined efforts won the club its second highest score for the season with a total of 53,073 points.
AVSL ROUND 10 THRILLERS
The results from Round 9 sets up a tantalizing scenario for five of the sixteen DVAC age division teams who are still in the mix to win a season premiership. The results for the DVAC teams in the Female 40+, Female 50+, Female U18, Female U16, Male U16 teams are urged to get behind the drive for premiership glory in the final Round of AVSL for the season next Saturday (8th February) at the Aberfeldie & Casey venues.
DVAC Female 40+: Simone Kuppler, Kate Ryan, Meg Nicholls, Victoria Lindores, Briony Rheuben, Lori McLeod-Mills
This team now leads the comp by a margin to 9,136 points and seems certain to take the season victory. BUT … there is still Round 10 to go.
DVAC Female U18: Georgia L’Estrange, Jamieson Lander, Ella Littlehales, Hannah Hvalica, Kirra Wright, Vanessa Smith, Luella Wood, Amelia Djeric, Alexia Moxon, Amelia Di Benedetto, Mackenzie Genders, Maddy Meagher, Athanasia Patroungas, Elisha Blair, Poppy Scot-Dalgleish
Finished second to Glenhuntly in Round 9 but gathered enough points to take the lead from Eaglehawk and now sit on top of the ladder with a lead of 1,199 points. A great result … but it will have to be defended in Round 10. Be there or be square!!
DVAC Female 50+: Sarah Gittins, Gaelyne Kenshole, Debbie McKenzie, Paula Merino, Bec Quigley
What a team! They have trailed South Bendigo all season but in a winning effort in Round 9 they have taken the lead on the season ladder and lead by 1694 points. That’s not a huge lead & will need defending.
DVAC Male U16: Logan Armstrong-Bourne, Brodie Batt, Kai Bunyard, Matthew Layton, William Quigley, Elliot Williams, Jack Daley, Felix Morgan, Jaime Hvalica, Max Davidson, Toby Hamilton, Nicholas Tomkins, Alexander Tomkins, Alexander Dewar, Hunter Harvey, Charlie Cooper, Harvey McGregor, Chehan Udugampala, Christos Kozaris, Ethan Deres, Josh Koegler
This team went into Round 9 with sitting on top of the season ladder but finished 16th in Round 9! Only 5 of the 21 members turned up to compete! Amazingly, the DVAC U16 boys are still in second place on the season ladder and trail by a gettable 906 points. That will require the team to turn out in force for Round 10. Premierships are prized rewards in any sport. Here’s your chance!
DVAC Female U16: Rose Jarvis, Lucy Johns, Matilda Johnson, Oli Oldfield, Grace Robinson, Rebecca Hvalica, Zoey Ryan, Liv Nicholls, Hanna Rowe, Anu Conley, Georgie Ritchie, Ines Caton-Smith, Daisy Whyte, Sarah Holmes, Danika Coppola, Teagan Corden, Chrissy Patroungas
A win in Round 9 has opened the door for this highly talented team. The team still sit in third place on the season ladder, but they have closed the gap on the top two and now trail Essendon
by 606 points and Geelong Guild by 526 points. With a HUGE effort and the wind blowing in the right direction … maybe it could be done. If that happens I will sweep the front straight at Willinda Park with a straw broom!
DVAC Male 40+:
40+: Aaron Bourne, Craig Cassidy, Charles Jacobson, Dylan Littlejohn, Rory McPhillips, Colin Newman, Arunan Arumainayagam, Cyrus Wong, Michael Constantine, Leon Gray, Damien Cusack, Daniel Rees
A wonderful win in Round 9 by this DVAC team over the mighty Eaglehawk team meant that they wiped off 1,608 points off a deficit of 5,636 points. Now trail by 4,028 points.
DVAC Male 50+: Chris Boyne, Darren Corden, Scott Barnes, Mark Tapping, David Hvalica, Brett Maloney, Andrew McKenzie, Paul Schofield, Adam Scott, Jeff Young, Matt Hall, Lalith Udugampala, Darren Rudd
DVAC finished second to Wendouree in Round 9. Trouble was that Wendouree were already on top of the season ladder. One Round to go and 2,443 points to make up.

· The THOUSAND CLUB: I know, every point counts and there were three athletes that arrived at Doncaster to run a 4 x 200m Relay – thanks Matilda L’Estrange, Poppy Scot-Dalgleish & Alexander Tomkins – but scoring a thousand points deserves our recognition. Well done to the following seven athletes: Asher Andrews (M18) (1,178); Gaelyne Kenshole (F50) (1,170); Liv Nicholls (F16) (1,136); Zoey Ryan (F16) (1,107); Janusz Kabucki (M18) (1,083); Vanessa Smith (F18) (1,077); Matilda Johnson (F16) (1,000).

Of course only three of the events actually scored. Great work, Gaelyne!
