TWO PREMIERSHIPS AND NOW RUNNERS-UP: A PROUD VALLEY STORY
The AVSL 2024/2025 season is over, and the Diamond Valley Athletic Club has finished Runners-up to Eaglehawk in the Premier Division. After taking out the title for the last two seasons, DVAC has finished the season on 93 Shield points with a score of 420,302. Eaglehawk topped the season ladder with 99 Shield points and a score of 440,359. Considering that a total of 53 AV Clubs take part in the AVSL season, DVAC should be proud of its achievement once again.
A total of 72 DVAC athletes (31 Female & 41 Male) competed at the Aberfeldie, Casey and Geelong venues with a number of the club’s age groups contesting the season premiership in their division. At the end of the competition three of the sixteen divisions were able to claim premiership honours. These teams were the Female18, the Female 40+ and the Female 50+. All at DVAC congratulate the members of the team that competed throughout the season.
FEMALE 18:
Despite finishing Roun10 in third place, the F18 team had enough ladder points in the bank to account for the late charge from the Essendon and Glenhuntly U18 teams. The competing athletes in Round 10 were Amelia Djeric, Mackenzie Genders, Alexia Moxon, Ella Littlehales, Georgia L’Estrange, Poppy Scot-Dalgleish, Luella Wood and Vanessa Smith. Congratulations!
FEMALE 40:
A small but inspired team that has stayed strong all season went into the final round with a massive lead of 9,116 points. Instead of relying on that to carry them through, the team of Victoria Lindores, Meg Nicholls and Kate Ryan competed in a total of 12 events to achieve a winning score for the round. Meg Nicholls posted pb efforts in the 200m (34.05) & Discus (11.00m); Kate Ryan ran the 3000m for the first time, clocking 14:07.1; and Victoria Lindores pb’d in the Shot Put (7.06m). A premiership well deserved!
FEMALE 50:
This team trailed South Bendigo for the first half of the season but then moved to the top of the ladder and stayed there, leading by 1,694 points after Rd 9. Despite the F50 teams from Old Xav’s and Keilor St Bernards making a mighty effort to deny them the honours for Rd 10, the team of Rebecca Quigley, Sarah Gittins, Debbie McKenzie and Gaelyne Kenshole held tight covering 11 events between them. Gaelyne Kenshole led the team magnificently gathering a total of 1,073 points from her efforts in Discus (18.75m), Pole Vault (2.65m), Shot Put (7.78m) and Triple Jump (8.03m). Personal best efforts by Sarah Gittins in the 200m (38.97) and Rebecca Quigley in the Shot Put (5.68m) helped things along. Debbie McKenzie ran the 3000m in 13:57.1. Congratulations team!
MALE 40:
A win in Round 10 whittled the lead held by Eaglehawk by 129 points but still left the Valley M40 team in second place on the season ladder by a margin of 3899 points.
M16:
A brave showing in Round 10 but conceded a win to the top team, Essendon by 229 points meaning they fell short for the season by 1096 points. Second place on the season ladder.

JAMIE RITCHIE EQUALS STATE RECORD IN 200m
We know that Jamie Ritchie (U14) is fast and they say that the track at Geelong is fast so put the two together and good things will happen. Jamie ran the 200m in 24.71 (1.9) to equal the Female Under 14 Victorian State record set by Nana-Adoma Owusu-Afriye in 2012. This achievement was recognized with a score of 524 ponts. At the same meet Jamie ran the 100m in 12.36 in a Non Scoring event but Score Buddy give it a score of 492 points. All good preparation for the forthcoming State Champs. Go Jamie.
VALLEY SPRINTERS DEPTH
In the same Heat of the 200m at Geelong that Jamie Ritchie clocked 24.71, Rebecca Hvalica (U16) finished in a pb time of 25.29 (481pts) & Katie Oliver crossed in 25.80 (427pts). Olivia Sheens joined the part with her own pb, 26.69 (398pts).
A Non Scoring 100m event was also held at Geelong and the party continued with Rebecca Hvalica leading her training mates home in 12.52 (Score Buddy estimate of 481pts!) to Jamie Ritchie, 12.36, and Katie Oliver, 12.52. In a separate Heat, Olivia Sheens clocked 12.97.
Dillon Vidanapathirana (MOpen) lowered his best time for the 200m to 25.57 at the Geelong venue. He won his Heat of the 100m in 12.70.
JEROME SETS TWO NU’U RECORDS
Jerome Nu’U (M14) has been out to get his name into the Valley record books since joining the club this season & in Round 10 he achieved his goal, not once, but twice. Jerome excited his band of followers at Aberfeldie, when he sent the 1kg Discus out for a distance of 42.30m. Later in the day, Jerome landed the 4kg Shot Put a distance of 12.20m. Both achievements establish new DVAC club records for the MU14.
3000m OF ENTERTAINMENT
The first Heat of the 3000m at Aberfeldie saw three training mates, Brodie Batt (U16), Rhodri Whelan (U18) and William Quigley (U16) engage in an entertaining battle with the distance and each other. As they lapped around the track the positions were constantly changing. In the end all three had squeezed personal best times out of themselves with Brodie Batt (9:32.6), Rhodri Whelan (9:37.5) and William Quigley (9:42.1) walking off the track happy to have shared the experience.
In later Heats of the 3000m, Myles Boyle (U14) made his first appearance at an AVSL round and worked at a consistent pace to achieve a 50sec pb with a time of 9:49.4. Jordan Rudd (U20) (T20) carried on with a stream of consistent form posting 11:38.0 after clocking 2:13.34 for the 800m.
MAX DAVIDSON PREPARES FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
In a move to prepare himself for the coming Championships, Max Davidson (M16) moved up to the 5000m distance for the Race Walk event at Casey. Max coped well with the challenge and finished in 22:52.0. Score Buddy rates this achievement at 444 points.
