SUPER SATURDAY AT THE LAKE
The Lakeside Stadium was a hive of activity on Saturday 6th January as the New Year of athletics kicked off with the Combined Events Championships, Round 2 & 3 of the AV Specialist groups, the High Velocity Club, AV Throwers, Rare Air and Pole Vault.
DVAC had three athletes compete in the Combined Events Championships – Asher Andrews (MU18 Decathlon), Lalith Udugampala (M50+ Decathlon) and Chehan Udugampala (MU16 Heptathlon). Another 13 Valley athletes took part in the Specialist Meets on offer.
The 200m races at Lakeside produced a series of quality results by Maddy Meagher, Katie Oliver, Rebecca Hvalica, Olivia Sheens and Ines Caton-Smith. Ines lowered her time to 28.80.
Charlee Dickson led her heat of the 400m from start to finish and came away with a pb of 64.77. Jamieson Lander, 63.37 and Sugi Neecowen, 63.70, both year off with a high performance effort.
Leizel Cilliers cleared 1.52m in the High Jump while Elyssia Kenshole, 4.05m, and her mother, Gaelyne Kenshole, 2.50m, posted excellent results in the Pole Vault.
Briony Rheubens finished the 2023 season off with a 51.41m Hammer Throw at Geelong and was soon back to top form at Lakeside with a 49.85m throw.
