THE LIGHTS ARE ON … AND THE RUNNERS ARE HOME!
The eight DVAC runners who lined up at the Box Hill Burn on Thursday 21 March had the rare privilege of experiencing Australia’s first ever meet with
pacing lights. The battery of lights that swept around the track were set up to the designated pace on the green with the blue lights indicating a second ahead and the red lights telling the runners that they were a second behind the target pace. Throw in prize money to the winners of each heat and there was a spirited night of racing at Box Hill.
Charles Jacobson was the only DVAC athlete to win a heat on the night & pocket the rich reward for the achievement. Charles won in 17:29.84.
Cameron Ellis was only 0.1 second off crossing in first place in his heat of the 1000m. His time of 2:35.45 should have been reward enough!
Caden Murray stormed home in his heat of the 5000m to record an impressive pb of 14:53.50. Caden crossed 0.3sec behind the Heat winner but his first sub 15 minute 5km brought him plenty of joy.
Jaryd Clifford lined up in the B Heat of the 5000m with his familiar guide, DVAC’s own Tim Logan. Tim later handed over to Matt Clarke who brought Jaryd over the line in second place in a time of 14:36.98. Jaryd was pleased to record a B Qualifier on his first hit out for a good while due to a series of setbacks. Next, Jaryd will be chasing a A Qualifier of 14:30.
Rhodri Whelan, U18, stepped up to the 5000m distance and handled the adjustment superbly; he finished in 17:00.21.
