DVAC WINS THE POINTS IN ROUND 4 OF THE AVSL SEASON
The Diamond Valley Athletic Club has won top points in the Premier League for Round 4 of the Athletics Victoria Shield League season. DVAC finished Round 4 with 48,071 points ahead of Eaglehawk on 47,366 points. DVAC had 77 athletes compete in Round 4 (37 Female & 40 Male). The season ladder now sees DVAC in second place on 37 points behind Eaglehawk on 47 points. Eaglehawk have already played their Powerplay that doubles the round score while DVAC is yet to play their Powerplay. The 10 points DVAC earned in Round 4 for heading the table would double to 20 if they had chosen to play the Powerplay.
Female Open: Placed 2nd in State:
Keely Boyne said, ‘What wind?’ after her stellar 24.14 200m. ‘That’s a 6.0 wind said the judges. Spoilsports! Still it was valued at 509 points.
Shania Murray led allcomers in the Open Women’s 3000m with a 10:26.0.
Georgia Gillson ran a slick 25.92 200m & a wonderful 61 second leg in the 4 x 400m Relay where the team of Georgia, Luella Wood, Tess Gillson & Lucy Johns were ranked 2nd for the Open Women.
Throwers Emma Butler & Lucinda Derrett racked the points up in the Javelin & Hammer Throw.
Female 18: Placed 2nd in State:
Katie Oliver ran 2nd fastest 100m for F18 with a 12.83. Olivia Sheens equalled her pb in the 200m with a 26.92 run. Tess Gillson and McKenzie Genders added to the sprint talent. Jamieson Lander led the F18 results in the 400m Hurdles in windy conditions.
Vanessa Smith was ranked 3rd in F18 in the Javelin with a 28.44m throw while Keira Sanchez sent the Hammer out for 47.12m to be ranked 2nd in the age group.
Female 16: Placed 2nd in State
Some day for Maddy Meagher who ran a 25.23 200m to earn 523 points. Then Maddy jumped 5.01m in the Long Jump to pick up 456 points. Zoey Ryan won 1,052 points for the day with the 100m (14.90), Hammer (37.07m) & Javelin (23.50m). Yes, Zoey also ran a 400m. Teagan Corden is a real team player & also did four events on the day including the 4 x 400m relay. Liv Nicholls competed with the Valley for the first time & assisted the DVAC F16 team with great efforts in the High Jump (1.35m) & the Triple Jump (8.89m). There were 8 F16 throwers in the Javelin & 4 of them were DVAC athletes – Ines Caton-Smith (33.10m), Amelia Di Benedetto (26.05m), Zoey Ryan and Hanna Rowe. In the Hammer Throw, Hanna Rowe led the state with a throw of 37.33m. Zoey Ryan was only 26cm behind.
Female 14: Placed 22nd in the State.
Aayla Arunan was the DVAC F14 team! Aayla managed to fit in four events – the Discus, High Jump, Shot Put and Triple Jump in a super busy program. Single handedly, Aayla managed to defeat 11 other teams! Calling the six other members of the DVAC F14 team … we need you.
Female 40+: Placed 1st in the State:
Ten members of the DVAC F40 team managed to do what no other DVAC team managed – to be 1st in the State. We salute all ten – Jo Moxon, Gaelyne Kenshole, Kate Ryan, Debbie McKenzie, Michelle King, Maryann Murray, Paula Merino, Sarah Gittins, Anni Rowe & Briony Rhuebens.
Briony Rheubens made a memorable return to the Valley fold, setting records in the Women Open and the Women 40+ Hammer Throw with a distance of 47.60m. Welcome back, Briony!
Male Open: 23rd in the State
Three in action this week – Joshua Scott, Dylan Littlejohn and Blake Barnes. Ten others in the team hear this message … please come back! Jarryd Cripps has flown off to Germany for a short break and does have a legit excuse. With the support of Dylan Littlejohn and the addition of Dillon Vidanapathirana, Josh Corden and Alexander Tomkins DVAC managed to field a MOpen 4 x 400m team.
Male 20: 4th in the State
The line up of Zack Lambie, Hayden Moon, James Hurley, Dillon Vidanapathirana & Harley Gilbert gave DVAC it’s strongest M20 team in years. Super strong in the sprints & Jumps. Best time in the 100m from Zack Lambie (11.84) and in the 200m from
Hayden Moon (23.76).
Male 18: 18th in the State
There was a real highlight at Keilor – the return of Jordan Rudd. After weeks of travelling around Europe (and running to land marks such as the Eiffel Tower) Jordan could be forgiven to finding Keilor fairly mundane. Jordan did no such thing and performed very well in the 200m (27.95) 800m (2:37.81) & 3000m (12.11). Rhodri Whelan gave his all in the 800m (2:20.38), 3000m (10:11.8) and the Shot Put (4.86m).
Male 16: 8th in the State
Chehan Udugampala continues his emergence as an elite Throws athlete after a successful All Schools Championship. In Round 4 Chehan sent the Discus 41.11m to rank 2nd in the M16 and sent the Shot 12.22m to rank 2nd again. Thomas Short and Nicholas Tomkin led the DVAC times for the 800m before heading the M16 4 x 400m relay team along with Kai Bunyard and William Quigley. The team won the M16 relay in 4:16.77. Max Davidson scored big points for the 2000m Walk, completed in 9:03.97.
Male 14: 4th in the State
Jesse Porter has strengthened the sprint department and this week ran the 200m in 28.94. Toby Hamilton led the M14 results in both the Triple Ju2mp (10.76m) and the High Jump (1.65m). Josh Corden was lion hearted in the 800m, Shot Put & Triple Jump. Jaimie Hvalica led the state in the 2000m Walk (10:14.68).
Male 40+: 2nd in the State
Down to Collingwood this week, but still well clear on top of the season ladder. Luke De Biasi is back – and how! Luke’s three quality performances were in the 300m Hurdles (46.06), Discus (32.79m) & the Shot Put (11.20m) all scored well in the 400’s and totalling 1,394 to head the DVAC tribe. Matthew Hall (M50) travels far and wide to practice the craft of a Throws athlete and this week his range included the Shot Put (9.64m), Discus (29.49m), Hammer Throw (25.87m) and the Javelin (25.90m). Adam Scott no doubt won the most dedicated athlete award, traveling over 300km to compete and then returning to his holiday destination on the Murray. Adam’s highest score came from his 200m run in 27.95 a time that made his the 4th fastest in the M50. Cyrus Wong is serious about breaking 8.00m in the Triple Jump: in Round 4, Cyrus landed a personal best distance at 7.98m.
Colin Newman had a top day with the 7.26kg Shot Put, adding 51cm to his own DVAC M40+ club record with a put of 12.73m.
