DVAC CLUB HELPERS: DVAC filled all of the allocated Club Helper duties for the Vic Country Champs. The club is appreciative of the support offered by the following people:
HAMMER THROW: Arunan Arumainayagam, Kate Ryan, Colin Newman (2 shifts), Lalith Udugampala, Max Balchin
POLE VAULT: Tony Kenshole, David Hvalica
DISCUS: Lyn Davis, Bec Quigley (2 shifts)
DVAC OFFICIALS: David Armstrong, Jeff Hughes
Twelve DVAC athletes (6 Female & 6 Male) took the opportunity to fine tune their skills across different events in a very friendly Championship experience at Bendigo. In all the 12 athletes competed in 34 events with Jordan Rudd leading the way by competing in five events. DVAC should be proud of the great work done by our members in filling all of the Club Helper duties allocated to it by AV.
There were many ‘Invitation’ medals won by the DVAC athletes as they shared the podium with the Country athletes; too many to go through right now, but congratulations to all those DVAC athletes who won medals.
Random impressions & facts from the Country Championships:
* Elyssia Kenshole (FOpen) made another important step back to competition with a clearance over 4.00m.
* Zoey Ryan (FU16) gained extra competition with the Hammer Throw by competing in the Open Women (39.26m) and the FU20 (40.43m)
* Jordan Rudd pulled out a clutch pb Jump of 4.80m with his last effort in the Long Jump to beat his best-mate Kai Davenport. The two T20 athletes went hammer & tongs at it all weekend with the points going to Kai in the 800m and 1500m while Jordan took the points in the 200m & 400m. Their run in the 800m was memorable with Kai crossing in 2:12.87 and Jordan in 2:13.00.
* Dillon Vidanapathirana (MOpen) (T20) ran a pb in the 100m with 12.64.
* Aylaa Arunan (F14) still managed good results in the Javelin, Long Jump and Triple Jump while recovering from a broken toe.
* William Quigley (M16) has now qualified for the Nationals in the 2000m Steeplechase with a 6:41.56. He ran a 4:30.91 in the 1500m.
* Colin Newman (M40+) & Arunan Arumainayagam (M40+) both did well in the Hammer Throw. Colin threw a 38.83m while Arunan’s 22.46m was a pb.
* Chehan Udugampala (M16) has qualified for the Nationals in the Hammer Throw. At Bendigo he threw 39.55m. Lalith Udugampala (M50+) ran a great 100m finishing in 12.48.
* Rebecca Hvalica (F16) was so close to her best time in the 100m with 12.43.
* Ines Caton-Smith (F16) still threw the Javelin 31.39m despite a ‘crook’ shoulder.
* Daisy Whyte (F16) ran a slashing 200m before having a contend with a headwind down the front straight. Still ran a 62.36.

Keely Boyne (FOpen) went to Canberra hoping to make the Finals in the 60m & 100m Hurdles & she has achieved that. Four very good races & the start of an exciting period for Keely as she builds up for the Nationals.
Kirra Wright (F18) (T36) went to Canberra to undergo the Para Classification process, a taxing experience in itself. That she was able to then achieve such good results in the T16-19 Shot Put and 400m was a credit to her fitness and talent.

Saturday 25 January 2025
DVAC Result:
Male:

Mile: Jaryd Clifford (T12) 4:00.45 (3rd)
Do yourself a favour & watch the New Zealand Mile Championships at the famous Cooks Gardens track in Whanganui. In the Open Men’s race, Jaryd Clifford sat on pace for a sub 4min Mile with the leading two athletes. In the finish, Jaryd crossed the line in 4:00.45 to mark the start of an exciting period of competition. Also, this was the fastest Mile run by any DVAC athlete. After the race, Jaryd posted:
“Agonisingly close to breaking the four-minute mile barrier last night. No visually-impaired athlete in history has gotten this close. I’m really happy with how we’ve built back after Paris, hopefully a lot more to come!”
Congratulations Jaryd, from all at the Valley!
