VALLEY GOLD RUSH AT MASTERS
The Masters athletes at the Diamond Valley Athletic Club proved once again what a force they are in the sport at this year’s Victorian Masters Athletics 30+ Track & Field Championships held on the weekend at Doncaster. At the VMA Championships a total of 13 athletes (4 Female & 9 Male) won a total of 27 medals (17 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze).
This collective achievement followed a season of success by the DVAC’ senior athletes. The DVAC Female 40+ & 50+ teams finished the 2024/2025 AVSL season on top of the season Ladder in the F40 & F50 age divisions and 2nd in the M50 & M40 age groups. As well the M60 athletes were placed 3rd while the F60 athletes finished 7th on the season ladder. Then at the AV Overage Athletics Championships in February the 10 competing DVAC athletes collected an impressive total of 27 medals.
TRIPLE GOLD MEDAL WINNERS:
Colin Newman (M40) won Gold in the Hammer Throw (37.94m); Shot Put (12.65m) and the Weight Throw (10.96m).
Lalith Udugampala (M50) won Gold in the 60m (8.03); Javelin (40.76m); and the Long Jump (5.09m).
DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL WINNERS:
Gaelyne Kenshole (F50) won Gold in the 80m Hurdles (17.84) and the Triple Jump (7.87m).
Briony Rheuben (F40) won Gold in the Hammer Throw (47.10m); and the Weight Throw (15.42m).
Sarah Papadopoulos (F40) won Gold in the 3000m Walk (23:09.02) and the 1500m Walk (11:18.15).
Bruce Wood (M70) won Gold in the Discus (29.85m); Shot Put (10.02m); and the
GOLD MEDAL WINNERS:
Daniel Rees (M45) won Gold in the 3000m Steeplechase (11:44.98).
Paul Schofield (M50) won Gold in the High Jump (1.65m)
John Hunter (M70) won Gold in the High Jump (1.30m).

MIDDLE DISTANCE DELIGHTS AT DONCASTER
Over 500 athletes lined up in 43 heats of the 800m and 1500m events to mark the largest finish to a Victorian Milers Club season on record. The evening of high quality racing produced a good percentage of personal best times and the 15 DVAC athletes who competed were no exception.
Ethan Armstrong-Bourne (U18) broke through the 2minute barrier for the 800m for the first time when he won his heat in 1:57.95. This bettered the Nationals qualifying time of 1:59.0 for the Men Under 18.
Thomas Short (M18) who already had a qualifier, posted his second sub 2min 800m with 1:59.82.
Samuel Reeve (M15) slashed three seconds off his previous best time when he crossed in 2:04.02, well under the qualifying time of 2:12.0.
Matilda Johnson (F16) finished the 1500m in 4:42.02 with Poppy Scot-Dalgleish (F20) posting a season best time of 4:44.89.
Kai Bunyard (M16) returned to the track after almost a full year out with injury and looked at home in his heat of the 800m where he finished in 2:16.20.
Other athletes to run pb’s at the VMC #5 were Joshua Fitzgerald (M18) 2:03.93 in the 800m, & Jack Daley (M17), 5:15.78 in the 1500m.
Georgia L’Estrange (F18) ran her second fastest 800m (2:27.16) as did Brodie Batt (M17) with 2:03.93 and Rhodri Whelan (M20) in the 1500m with 4:28.24.
