DVAC CLUB HELPERS
While the Championships were an All Schools meet, AV still required clubs to provide Club Helpers and DVAC covered at least 20 hours of duty. A big vote of Thanks goes to the following: (Saturday) Max Balchin, Luke Hamilton, Chris Whelan; (Sunday) Jason Quigley, Sharyn Ritchie & Dillon Vidanapatharina who all helped to fill the required duties for DVAC. Their contributions to DVAC is much appreciated.
AV has now informed DVAC of the Club Duties it will be expected to fill over Weekend #2 of the 2023 Victorian All Schools T&F Championships and they are set out below. Please consider offering your support to help our juniors at the All Schools Championships.
LISTENINGS AT LAKESIDE
There were so many stories from the weekend at Lakeside, but here are just a few overheard:
- Asher Andrews went under 11seconds for the 100m! Was that a pb? In the final of the BU18 Asher pulled out a 10.99. What a great weekend for our Champion decathlete! Silver in the 100m & Discus and Bronze in the Shot Put.
- Ethan Armstrong-Bourne just keeps getting better in the 1500m. After a massive fall in the 3000m at the SSV State Champs on Monday (& getting up to win) he posted a pb in the heat of the MU18 of 4:09.00, he backed up with a 4:07.41 to finish 6th in the final. Other 1500m pb’s were logged by Matilda Johnson (4:43.68), Nicholas Tomkins (4:20.97). Ally Brooks (U18) stormed home over the last 300m to win an exciting 1500m final in 4:35.69. This was after winning the SSV State title last Monday in 4:33.06.
- Wave of the Walkers: The DVAC medal tally jumped by four in two races on Sunday. The two 3000m Walks finals saw Max Davidson (U16), Jaime Hvalica (U15) & Sarah Holmes (U16) all win Gold with Lucy Johns (U16) close behind to take out the Bronze medal.
- Sprint storm: the last finals on the Sunday saw a succession of DVAC sprinters line up to medal in exciting races. The medals came with Jamie Ritchie (U14) winning Gold, Asher Andrews (U18) and Rebecca Hvalica (U16) winning Silver and Maddy Meagher (U17) adding a Bronze to the collection.
- Off to Brisbane: to qualify for the Australian Schools Track & Field Championships (Brisbane, Fri 6 Dec to Sun 8 Dec) athletes needed to finish 1st or 2nd in the finals. On this basis the DVAC athletes who can pack their bags include Rebecca Hvalica, Sarah Holmes, Jamie Ritchie, Jordan Rudd, Matthew Davidson, Toby Hamilton, Jaime Hvalica, Ally Brooks, Matilda Johnson & Asher Andrews. Of course other spots may open up if athletes decline the offer. And then … Week #2 is coming up!
