VALLEY ATHLETES KEEP SHARP AT SPECIALIST MEETS
Now that the AV Shield and State Championships are over for the 2024/2025 Summer, there is still an appetite for competition with many of the DVAC athletes. Some are looking to keep in shape for the Nationals that are only a month away while others are looking to squeeze that bit extra out of the Track & Field season. The Specialist meets such as the Box Hill Burn, the High Velocity Club, the AV Throwers Club, and Rare Air have all offered athletes a chance to achieve these outcomes in the past week. As well, many of the DVAC juniors will have competed at the Little Athletics Victoria’s State Track & Field Championships at Casey Fields on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th March 2025.
ELYSSIA VAULTS HIGHER AT GEELONG
Last week Elyssia Kenshole cleared 4.15m at the Perth Track Classic and this week Elyssia has cleared 4.20m at the Rare Air VII in Geelong. Elyssia cleared the heights of 3.85m, 4.00m, 4.10m and 4.20m all at her first attempt before missing her three attempts at 4.31m. A clearance over 4.31m would have bettered her personal best height with the Pole Vault of 4.30m that she made in April 2024.
THE DISTANCE CREW
Perfect conditions at Box Hill with the pacer lights flashing around the track made for a great evening of distance running. Shania Murray ran a season best time of 17:53.69 in the 5000m while Poppy Scot-Dalgleish made an auspicious debut of 18:45.07.
Rhodri Whelan (U18) made the wait until after 10:00pm worthwhile with a pb of 16:51.26. Charles Jacobson ran a season best time of 17:39.21.
SPEED MACHINES
Sprinters love the new track at Geelong and while there were few pb’s the pace was still on with Keely Boyne (12.10) and Saye Morris (10.82) leading the charge in the 100m races. Saye backed up with a 200m in 22.37.
Elisha Blair (U18) equalled her pb of 12.64 while Olivia Sheens (U20) lowered her time for the 100m to 12.87. Charlie Gray (U18) continued his great back half of the season with a pb in the 100m of 11.61 as well as a 15.22 in the 110m Hurdles (0.914m).
