AVSL ROUND 8 2025 - DVAC RESULTS
Published Mon 20 Jan 2025
TWO ROUNDS REMAINING AND POWERPLAY IN ROUND 9
With only two rounds of the AV Shield League remaining the Diamond Valley Athletic Club is placed second on the Premier Division and has five Age Group teams in the battle for a season Premiership. Round 9 of the AVSL will be a huge day for the Valley with the club using its Powerplay to double the points for the round. It will be all roads to Doncaster & Glenhuntly on Saturday 1 February 2025.
Round 8 of AVSL season DVAC scored 42,896 points to rank as the second highest club score behind Eaglehawk. DVAC remains firmly fixed as the second placed club on the Premier Division season ladder. A total of 65 athletes (37 Male & 28 Female) competed at the Aberfeldie, Mt Evelyn and Geelong venues.
While dreams of a Threepeat victory in the Premier Division now relies on a measure of good fortune, there are five DVAC Age Group teams well in the mix for a premiership by the end of Round 10.
The DVAC Female 40+ team is the only team that seemingly has a premiership well in its grasp. Before Round 8 this team had a lead of just on 7000 points and their top of the ladder effort in Round 8 will further enhance this lead.
The DVAC Male U16 team and the Female 50+ team will go into Round 9 on top of their respective ladders, both by a slender margin. The Male U16 team finished second in Round 8 but will retain a lead of over 1000 points over the Essendon team.
The Female 50+ team finished in second place in Round 8 but earned enough points to move to the top of the season ladder. The tightness of the competition is highlighted by their slender lead of 133 points.
The DVAC Male 50+ team entered Round 8 in third position in a closely contested division. After Round 8 the team will move to second position, trailing the leaders by a margin of 735 points. Round 9 at Doncaster on Saturday 1st February will be a vital contest for all teams in the division.
While the DVAC Men 60+ team finished Round 8 in second position they would need a major shift in the points tally to close the gap on the leaders, Collingwood.

ROUND 8 STORIES:
· STORIES FROM THE (POLE) VAULT:
Best news of the day was the return of Elyssia Kenshole (F Open). Towards the end of 2024 Elyssia Kenshole suffered a serious training accident. Amazingly Elyssia returned to competition at Aberfeldie (where the accident occurred) and after an early baulk went on to clear 3.80m. Welcome back, Elyssia.
(Elyssia is a two time National Champion 2018 and 2021, selected on the Australian team, 2019, Oceania Athletics Championship, Silver.)
Gaelyne Kenshole (F50), mother of Elyssia, is also in rare form with the Pole Vault and sailed over the bar at 2.75m to mark a new pb and new club record for the F50.
Toby Hamilton tackled the Pole Vault in competition for the fifth time and came away very happy to have cleared the bar at 3.35m, setting a new club record for the Male U15 & U16.
Asher Andrews (M18) equalled his pb, clearing 3.65m.
Daniil Rauzin (M Open) extended his best height with the Pole Vault by 10cm when he cleared 2.30m. Daniil should win the Courage award on a regular basis: on Saturday he tackled the Shot Put, 200m, Pole Vault, as well as the 4 x 400m Relay.
· FAST BUT NOT FURIOUS
There was a wealth of DVAC talent on show in the Sprint events in Round 8. Jamie Ritchie (F14)notched up the highest DVAC score for an individual event when she covered the 200m in 25.59 (495pts) to lead the results in her age group. Scary thing is that Jamie can run faster, like her 24.73 at Brisbane for the National Schools.
Keely Boyne (FOpen) clocked up two quality sprints at the Mt Evelyn venue with a 100m in 12.11 (448 pts) and the 100m Hurdles in 14.58 (439 pts).
Victoria Lindores (F40) tested out the new track at Geelong & covered the 100m in 14.41 and the 200m in 31.83 with both times ranking her as second in the F40+ age group.
Charlie Gray (M18) led the DVAC times for the 100m with 11.85 while Asher Andrews led the times for the 200m, clocking 23.78.
Lalith Udugampala (M50) ran the 200m in 25.77 to rank 2nd in the age group & score 421 points.
· DISTANCE EVENTS
Dylan Littlejohn (M40) ignored the hot conditions at Aberfeldie to lodge his second fastest 3000m with a 9:39.6. Rhodri Whelan (M18) had earlier lowered his 800m time to 2:12.75. still managed a 9:52.4 for the 3000m. Down at Geelong, William Quigley (M16) went over the 2000m Steeplechase in 6:57.99 after running pb’s in the 100m in 12.58 and the 200m in 25.80.
Adina Morrow (FOpen) and Ella Littlehales (F18) swapped positions throughout their 3000m race before Adina crossed in 12:50.0 and Ella finished in 12:54.4.
Thomas Short is edging towards a nationals qualifier in the 800m. In Round 8 Thomas clipped another second off his best time with a 2:03.41.
· THROWS & JUMPS
Colin Newman (MOpen) has to contend with the 7.26kg weight week after week and he is never far off his best performances. This week Colin sent the 7.26kg Hammer out for a distance of 39.33, his second best throw for the season. In the Shot Put (7.26kg of course!) his best put was measured at 12.31m.
It was great to see Paula Merino (F50) and Keira Sanchez (F20) back from their South American odyssey. Paul helped bolster the F50 team in the throws events in the Hammer (22.71m) and the Shot Put (6.39m) while Keira sent the Hammer out 35.69m and the Shot put for 9.42m.
Vanessa Smith (F18) is a talented throws athlete – Hammer, 33.92m, and Shot, 8.56m – but in Round 8 her pb came in the Triple Jump with 9.14m. Vanessa also ran a leg of the Female Open 4 x 400m relay.
