AVSL Rd2: VALLEY CLIMBS INTO TOP FOUR: NOW THE BATTLE BEGINS!

Published Sat 20 Nov 2021

Round 2 of the Athletics Victoria Shield League season was an excellent day at the office for the Diamond Valley Athletic Club. After finishing 5th on the Premier League ladder at the end of Round 1, the DVAC team (35 Women & 32 Men) racked up a total 42,581 points for Round 2, placing the club third on the table for the round. The 8 points gained for Round 2 combined with the 5 points from Round 1 sees the Valley edge ahead of Doncaster at the end of Round 2 with 14 points to 13. The challenge for DVAC will now be to stay in the top four teams and get the chance to take part in the Shield League finals at the end of the season.

Each team in the Premier League gets to play its Joker for one round of the season and double the points earned for their place on the ladder for that round. Had Diamond Valley played its Joker in Round 2, the 8 points would have become 16. Two key ingredients are a Program that suits our athletes and a big turnout of athletes on the day. Which round do you recommend the Valley to play its Joker?

KIRRA & JORDAN SET NEW AUSTRALIAN RECORDS

Kirra Wright (T38) and Jordan Rudd (T20) have started the 2021-2022 season in great form.

In Round 2 Kirra lowered her own Australian record for Under 15 T38 400m to 1:20.16. She had previously established the record at 1:21.91. Kirra was scored highly for her three events in Round 2: 474 pts for the 400m: 434 pts for the Long Jump (3.36m) and 410 pts for the 100m (16.22) & her total of 1318 points placed her third for the Valley behind Asher Andrews (1,388) and Luke De Biasi (1,376).

On Tuesday 23 November, Kirra & her mother, Kylie, will be attending the annual Victorian Disability Sport & Recreation Awards in the city where Kirra will be a finalist in the Marg Angel Junior Sportsperson of the Year. Congratulations & Good luck, Kirra.

Jordan set the existing Australian record for the Under 17 T20 1500m at 5:50.47 at the 2021 Australian Championships in Sydney earlier this year. On Saturday, Jordan stormed home to finish in 5:46.4 and lower his own record.
