AVSL RD 3: VALLEY ATHLETES SHINE AS SEASON HEATS UP

VALLEY ATHLETES SHINE AS SEASON HEATS UP

There were plenty of great highlights for the Diamond Valley Athletic Club in Round 3 of the Athletics Victoria Shield League competition. The 75 DVAC athletes (35 Female & 40 Male) who travelled to the venues at Keilor or Mt Evelyn produced a final score of 52,792 points to place the Valley in second position on the Premier League ladder for the Round. Going in to Round 3, DVAC was placed second on the season ladder, one point behind Eaglehawk. In Round 3 both Eaglehawk and Western Athletics used their Powerplay to double the points they won for Round 3.

In AVSL, clubs are issued with one (1) Powerplay per season. Clubs can use their Powerplay on any round from Rounds 1-10.

Strategy is key. Use your Powerplay wisely!

The ladder will now see the following order on the season ladder: Eaglehawk 39 points, DVAC 27 points, WA 27, Essendon 23, Glenhuntly 17, Wendouree 15, South Bendigo 11, Box Hill 9, Mentone 10, Chilwell 5. The possibility for DVAC to repeat the Premiership effort of the previous two seasons will rely on the club putting in strong performances over the next seven rounds of the Shield competition … and of course using its Powerplay wisely.

It was the high quality performances of the DVAC athletes in Round 3 that kept the club up in second position. Four DVAC club records were broken, ten DVAC athletes achieved a score of over 400 points for an individual event, four DVAC age group teams won top points for Round 3 and a lot of DVAC athletes reached new personal best milestones on the day.
