AVSL RD 2: TOP EFFORT BY THE VALLEY
The Diamond Valley Athletic Club has one hand on top position in the Premier Division of the Athletics Victoria Shield League. With an outstanding club performance in Round 2 of the 2022/2023 season, DVAC finished on top of the Ladder well clear of all other teams with a claim on top spot for the season so far. The inability of the Geelong venue to host Round 2 competition left some uncertainty over the standing of the points claimed from the other venues. AV released a statement explaining:
“At this stage, AV are reviewing options to reschedule Geelong’s Round 2 of AVSL to a later date. This means that AVSL point scoring will still be tallied for all other venues today, although if AV are unable to reschedule, the tallied scores will not stand for Round 2”
A total of 84 DVAC athletes (41 Women & 43 Men) competed in AVSL Round 2, mostly at the Doncaster venue where the Valley nerve centre was the gathering around the Valley tent. The high standard of performances by the DVAC athletes kept the points tally ticking over and at the end of the day DVAC had amassed a total of 50,081 points to head the Premier Division. If the points do stand then the Valley would grab top spot on the season ladder by a narrow margin of 1,895 points.
TEAM RESULTS
Three DVAC teams claimed top spot for Round 2 and there were a number of other DVAC teams that were close to the top in their group. The DVAC Men 40+, Women Under 18 and Women Under 16 headed all other teams across the state in their age groups at the end of competition
The Men 40+ team had 17 of the squad of 28 compete to produce a whopping score of 5952 points to earn top points for the round.
The Women Under 18 team had 9 of the squad of 14 compete to produce a score of 5952 points to earn top points for the round.
