FIEKE’S TRIPLE TREAT RUN AT VIC 5000m CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fieke Van Der Kamp,18, is in rare form over the distance events. At the 2022 Victorian 5000m Championships on Thursday 17 November, Fieke claimed the silver medal for the Under 20 Women, smashed her own pb and set a new DVAC club record.

Fieke’s previous best time for the 5000m was 17:50.60, set two weeks earlier when she won the Women’s Under 20 Victorian All Schools 5000m title at Lakeside.

At the Victorian Women’s Under 20 5000m Championships held at Box Hill, Fieke led the field through the first half of the race and gamely fought on to finish in second place in a time of 17:33.41. This lowered the existing DVAC club record for the Under 19 & Under 20 Women by 4 seconds.

Blake Barnes, Men Open, stormed home to finish in second place in the Men D Heat of the 5000m races. Blake broke through the 16minute barrier for the first time, clocking 15:55.15. A versatile athlete, Blake will take heart from the run as he edges closer to the national qualifier in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Dylan Littlejohn, Men Open, was in the same heat as Blake, and he also lowered his previous best time for the 5000m. Dylan came through in 16:43.45 to slice 11 seconds off his previous best time.

Caden Murray, Men Open, is working back to his best form and in the Men B Heat he ran 15:15.29 for the 5000m to be just 8 seconds off his previous best time.

Damien Cusack, Men Open, was another happy athlete after his run of 18:04.48 in the E Heat on the program. An AFL Boundary umpire, Damien is pleased that his fitness is at a good standard at this stage of the season.
