VALLEY ATHLETES SHINE IN THE RAIN AT JELLS

Despite the arrival of wintry conditions for the start of the 2022 Cross Country season the 39 Diamond Valley Athletic Club athletes that raced in the Cross Country Relays showed all the spirit needed to meet the challenge.

The 3km course had plenty to test every runner with its twisting and turning design that kept finding a new uphill slope to question the athlete’s resolve.

DVAC TEAM RESULTS

The DVAC Women’s Under 16 team backed up the silver medal from 2021 with another Silver result in 2022. The combination of Jamieson Lander, Poppy Scot-Dalgleish and Ally Brooks formed a consistent line-up with only 13 seconds separating their times for the 3km leg they each ran. Their total time for the 9km was 35:38.

The two premier Valley teams in the Open age, Women Division 2 and Men Division 2 each finished in 7th place out of the 12 teams competing.

The 4 member Division 2 Women’s team covered 24km in 1hr44min to have an average of 26minutes for each of the 6km legs. Fastest run in the team was logged by Shania Murray who completed her 6km leg in 22:21. This was one of the fastest times for the 6km recorded by any of the Open women on the day.

The 6 member Division 2 Men’s team covered their 36km in2hr7min to have an average of 21minutes for each of the 6km legs. Caden Murray led the team up and set the best time of 19:25.

Other team results were: Women – Division 4 - 4th, Under 16 – 8th; Under 18 – 10th, 50+ - 7th: Men – Division 5 – 8th; 40+ - 9th; 50+ - 8th, 50+ - 17th; 60+ - 4th;

WELCOME TO THE VALLEY

Athletes to wear the Valley colours for the first time were: Voula Sheens, Georgia L’Estrange, Rory McPhillips, Dillon Vidanapathirana, Rhodri Whelan, Felix Morgan. Welcome and thank you for your support at Jells Park.

It was also good to welcome back Lyal Douglas, Taylor Radatti and Alana Barnes to the Valley line-up while Sugi Neecowen made her first appearance at a winter event.

THANK YOU TO DVAC CLUB HELPERS AT JELLS PARK

DVAC was given three Club helper duties at Jells Park. One of these was to be Marshall at Point 7. This was out in the backblocks of the park & Kirby Ellis kindly filled this duty all day until the last runner passed Point 7. Thank you Kirby.

Our other duties were to be Spotter & Recorder at Women’s Division 5. Jo Moxon and Alexia Moxon filled these duties. Thanks Jo & Alexia.

The DVAC Tent was a valuable facility on such a wet day – thanks to David Armstrong for bringing the tent & having it set up before the rest of us arrived. Thanks to the team, led by Damien Clifford & Rick Clarke who managed the pack up.
